When did you know you wanted to be an artist?
I always fancied myself as creative and artsy, but never settled on one artistic discipline. The past few years, in my 30s, I feel like I have gotten more intimate with the thought of being an artist... It is a lifestyle now.
How does your personal story/background influence your work?
I have finally faced the fact that I am weird, and my art reflects my personality and aesthetics. I always aim to try new things and I am not comfortable staying stagnant.
My background is varied, I went to school for library science, so older media and organic nizing/collections are a thing, but I also was a hair stylist, and color and shape are equally beautiful to me.
Which of your works are you most proud of?
Right now, any of my comics... I am working on chubby anthology 5. Sequential art is a rewarding style within the art scope and unfairly dismissed (along with illustration) as not high art.
But I also love watercolor. I love the flow and impermeable nature of that medium. I have created some of my most personal pieces with watercolor.
What is the hardest part about being a professional artist?
The anxiety and drama of a piece from conception to promotion. Many of us hate selling ourselves and I have a hard time with haughty talk about my art... I am more like, this made me feel good. I like color. I hope you like it too.
