When did you know you wanted to be an artist?

Since I was 5 years old.  I loved comic books (still do!) and would draw comic book characters for fun.  Mrs. Geral Butler, my high school art teacher, consistently challenged me.  She provided many opportunities for me to show my work and encouraged me to pursue art as a career.

How does your personal story/background influence your work?

My father used to draw around me and I guess it runs in the family because I have a half-brother who was also an artist – a painter.

Which of your works are you most proud of?

I am a big fan of Science Fiction and History and have always been interested in the Buffalo Soldiers.  Buffalo Soldiers were originally members of the 10th Calvary Regiment of the United States Army formed on September 21, 1866 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  My childhood friend, Dion Lee, and me created a Buffalo Soldier Comic Book series that chronicles the adventures of Tom Wilson, a fictional soldier in the 10th Calvary.  In 2010, I combined my love for science fiction and history and created Buffalo Force, written in the tradition of the Buffalo Soldiers but with a science fiction flare.

What is the hardest part about being a professional artist?

Deadlines…. Everyone wants things yesterday… or the day before yesterday.
